eSIM on Google Pixel: Complete Setup Guide 2026

Google Pixel phones have supported eSIM since the Pixel 2, and the clean stock Android experience makes Pixel the most straightforward Android phone for eSIM setup. No manufacturer bloatware, no extra UI layers — just a clean settings path. This guide covers setup, dual SIM management, and Pixel-specific features.

Compatible Pixel models

All Pixel phones from Pixel 3a onward fully support third-party eSIM: Pixel 3a, 4, 4a, 5, 5a, 6, 6a, 6 Pro, 7, 7a, 7 Pro, 8, 8a, 8 Pro, 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro Fold, and newer models. The Pixel 2 supported eSIM only for Google Fi. Pixel 7 and newer support multiple simultaneous eSIM profiles, allowing you to keep several travel plans installed and switch between them.

Setup process

Step 1: Purchase a plan from Airalo, Yesim, Saily, or Drimsim.

Step 2: Go to Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → + (Add). Select "Download a SIM instead?" → Next.

Step 3: Scan the QR code from your eSIM provider. The profile downloads over WiFi.

Step 4: Follow prompts to label and configure the new plan.

Step 5: Set your travel eSIM for "Mobile data" and keep your home SIM for "Calls & SMS."

Why Pixel is ideal for travel eSIM

Stock Android simplicity. The eSIM setup process on Pixel is the cleanest of any Android phone. No Samsung One UI complexity, no Xiaomi MIUI quirks — just standard Android settings. Fast updates. Pixel receives Android updates first, ensuring the latest eSIM features and bug fixes. Multiple eSIM profiles. Pixel 7+ stores multiple eSIM profiles simultaneously, so you can keep plans from different providers or destinations installed and simply toggle between them. Excellent camera. Pixel's computational photography means your travel photos will look great — and with your eSIM, you can share them instantly.

Dual SIM configuration

Under Settings → Network & internet → SIMs, you will see both your physical SIM and eSIM listed. Tap each to configure its role. For travel: set the travel eSIM for data, home SIM for calls and messages. Toggle off data roaming on your home SIM to prevent accidental charges. For detailed dual SIM management, see our dual SIM guide.

Troubleshooting

eSIM not activating: Toggle airplane mode, wait 10 seconds, toggle back. If still not working, restart the phone. No data: Settings → Network → SIMs → verify your travel eSIM is the preferred data SIM. Also check that mobile data is toggled on. Cannot add eSIM: Ensure your Pixel is not carrier-locked. Carrier-locked Pixels from certain providers may not accept third-party eSIMs. See our troubleshooting guide.
