eSIM on Samsung Galaxy: Complete Setup Guide 2026

Samsung Galaxy phones have supported eSIM since the Galaxy S20 series, including the entire S, Z Flip, Z Fold, and recent A series. Samsung's One UI adds its own layer to the standard Android eSIM setup, including a dedicated SIM Manager with features like per-app data routing. This guide covers the Samsung-specific process.

Compatible Samsung models

eSIM is supported on: Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, S21 series, S22 series, S23 series, S24 series, S25 series; Galaxy Z Flip, Z Flip3–Z Flip6; Galaxy Z Fold2–Z Fold6; Galaxy A54, A55 and newer A-series. Note: some regional variants (particularly in certain Asian markets) may lack eSIM support even on otherwise compatible models. Check Settings → Connections → SIM Manager — if "Add eSIM" appears, your phone supports it.

Step-by-step setup

Step 1: Purchase a plan from Airalo, Yesim, Saily, or Drimsim.

Step 2: Go to Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM → Scan QR code from carrier.

Step 3: Scan the QR code from your provider's app. The profile downloads over WiFi.

Step 4: Name your plan (e.g., "Thailand Data"). Under SIM Manager → Preferred SIMs, set: Mobile data → Travel eSIM. Calls → Home SIM. Messages → Home SIM.

Step 5: On arrival, confirm the travel eSIM is active and mobile data is routing through it.

Samsung SIM Manager features

One UI's SIM Manager offers features beyond stock Android. Per-app SIM selection: You can assign specific apps to use specific SIMs. Useful if you want certain apps to always use WiFi or your home SIM. Temporary data switching: If your active data SIM loses signal, Samsung can automatically switch to the other SIM temporarily. Turn this off for travel to avoid accidental roaming charges on your home SIM. Dual Messenger: Use two instances of apps like WhatsApp — one on each SIM/number. Useful if you register a local number on a temporary SIM.

Common Samsung-specific issues

"Add eSIM" not showing: Update your phone's software to the latest One UI version. On older models, eSIM support may require a carrier firmware update. Only one eSIM profile at a time: Most Samsung phones before the S23 series support only one active eSIM. You can store multiple profiles but only one can be active. S23 and newer support two active eSIMs. Carrier-locked: Samsung phones bought through carriers may have eSIM locked to that carrier. Contact your carrier to unlock.
